Senior Cloud Platform Engineer

The role

As Senior Cloud Platform Engineer, the successful candidate will work inside the ICT Flood Platform Team to provide technical support of all live National Flood Service applications and cloud platforms within an ITIL framework and defined product and platform team operating model, to deliver an outstanding customer focused Agile service.

In this role, the successful candidate will have demonstrable experience in delivering and operating an Azure infrastructure in line with advanced practices in infrastructure as code through both change and run processes, plus administrating and troubleshooting Cloud platforms and Microsoft technologies.

As an organisation we support flexible working. Our people have freedom to work across NRW and partner offices, or remotely, as required. You will be contracted to the nearest NRW office to your home and a suitable hybrid working pattern will be agreed on appointment. Any regular face to face meetings or training will be planned in advance. You will be required to provide out of hours cover on a rota basis which will be compensated for.

What you will do

In this role, you will join a team who are at the forefront of operations, supporting all end users and partners in their day-to-day activities. As Senior Cloud Platform Engineer, you will:

  • Be a Technical Lead for NRW NFS Applications and Azure platforms.
  • Develop, maintain and enhance existing applications and platforms in line with ICT development methodology.
  • Ensure the health and availability of applications and systems in line with ICT governance.
  • Ensure that incidents and service requests are resolved within agreed service level agreements.
  • Transform technical requirements into an effective DevOps toolchain to enable product delivery.
  • Ensure that deployment strategies for products are repeatable, scalable and highly available.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to more junior colleagues.
  • Attend ICT Governance forums and contribute towards the design and implementation of new solutions.
  • Work with external strategic partners to ensure application issues are resolved within service level agreements.
  • Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post.
  • Be committed to Natural Resources Wales Equal Opportunities and Diversity Policy, together with an understanding of how it operates within the responsibilities of the post.
  • Be committed to your own development through the effective use of your personal development plan (known as Sgwrs).
  • Any other reasonable duties requested commensurate with the grade of this role.
  • Required to take part in incident response activities.

Your qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills

  1. Required: Azure Cloud, Azure DevOps Pipelines (YAML),
  2. Preferred: Azure Bicep, Azure Networking, SQL Database, Containers and container app environments (or Kubernetes)
  3. Desired: Web Application Firewalling
  4. Experience of managing and supporting third party services delivered via API
  5. Experience of working in a an Agile (SCRUM) environment
  6. Proven experience of supporting and maintaining platforms and/or applications to SLA
  7. Knowledge of ITIL Service Management – specifically Incident and Problem Management and Project Management skills to define, plan and control work streams within your remit.

Welsh language level requirements

  • Essential: Level 1 – able to pronounce Welsh and use basic phrases
