NRW issues warning over use of waste plastic for equestrian surfaces

Using waste plastic for equestrian surface poses a danger to horses, riders and the environment, warns Natural Resources Wales (NRW).

Adrian Evans, NRW’s Lead Specialist Advisor for Tackling Waste Crime, said:

“NRW is currently investigating a suspected illegal deposit of this material at a site in Wales.
“This activity involves mixing plastics from a variety of sources, including cable sheathing and waste electricals which may contaminate the land and poses a risk to horses and riders.
“If you are offered material that could be waste, please think twice.”

It is an offence to store or use controlled waste on a site without an appropriate permit or exemption and NRW’s advice is if a deal seems too good to be true then it probably is, so don’t get caught out.

Adrian added:

“If you have concerns about suspected illegal activity or want to know more contact NRW by visiting :the NRW website -  reporting an incident  or calling - 0300 065 3000 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”
