NRW welcomes Welsh Government’s Draft Budget announcement

Welsh Government has today (20 December 2021) published its three-year Budget.

Clare Pillman, Chief Executive of Natural Resources Wales said:

“Natural Resources Wales (NRW) has an important role to play in tackling the intrinsically linked nature and climate emergencies, and we’re pleased to see these critical issues placed at the heart of the Welsh Government’s draft budget published today (20 Dec 2021).

“The indicative budget will enable NRW to plan how we can deliver against Ministerial priorities over the next three years. In addition to our grant in aid funding, and following positive conversations with Welsh Government, we are expecting further capital funding over the next three financial years that will allow us to invest further in key water quality projects, alongside projects designed to help tackle the nature emergency. It will also allow us to progress work on the designation of a new National Park in North Wales and three significant externally funded projects - the Heritage Lottery Funded Natur am Byth and two new projects funded by the European LIFE fund.

“Resourcing Ministerial ambitions effectively will be key if we are to deliver a sustainable, greener and fairer future for current and future generations. NRW has been engaging positively with the Welsh Government over recent weeks to ensure our grant in aid funding is aligned with our agreed priorities. It is clear that we have the joint ambition to embed the response to the climate and nature emergency in everything we do. We will continue to work collaboratively over the weeks ahead as we consider the proposed budget allocations ahead of the publication of the final budget in March 2022.”
