Forestry Regional Advisory Committee

Purpose

Under the Forestry Act 1967, we are required to maintain a regional advisory committee.

The committee exists to advise us on:

  • the application of our powers relating to:
    • refusing or granting felling licences subject to conditions
    • restocking notices
    • serving felling directions
    • enforcing felling licence conditions and felling directions in accordance with the UK Forestry Standard (UKFS)
  • the general duty to promote the establishment and maintenance of growing trees
  • other functions we may from time to time decide

Only we can call upon the Forestry Regional Advisory Committee for advice. External stakeholders are not able to request advice from it.

Maintaining a Forestry Regional Advisory Committee is a positive opportunity for us to seek specialist, professional advice to help inform our decision-making.

Membership

There are eight members of the Forestry Regional Advisory Committee representing the interests of owners of woodlands and timber merchants, and organisations concerned with the study and promotion of forestry.

The committee is a sub-group of the Wales Land Management Forum.

Meetings

Introductory meetings of the Forestry Regional Advisory Committee were held in September 2023 and January 2024 to explain its role and function to members.

Meetings will be held at least one a year, but otherwise will be convened depending on our need for advice.
