Report emergencies in the Dee Estuary

Emergency reporting

All emergency situations in the Dee Conservancy involving a vessel, person in the water or cut-off by the tide should be immediately reported to HM Coastguard:

• use VHF Channel 16
  or
• call 999 and ask for the coastguard

Report all other emergency situations to the appropriate emergency service i.e. police, fire or ambulance.

Information you should provide

• Your name
• Name of vessel/ casualty
• Position of vessel/ casualty: latitude and longitude or as bearing and distance from a landmark
• Summary of the incident, for example, person overboard or vessel on fire/sinking
• Number of people involved
• If any people are missing, give the number and a brief description
• What is your most immediate concern
• Contact details

What is an emergency situation?

An emergency situation is considered to be an occurrence which has, or may have, an adverse effect upon human life, property or the environment.

This can, for example, arise as a result of an accident, incident or potentially dangerous situation involving one or more vessels.

These occurrences are defined in regulations that set out the Statutory Reporting Requirements for ships, fishing vessels and recreational craft in such circumstances.
